Get Active with Your Kids!

One of the most enjoyable aspects of having children has to do with all of the new adventures you get to go on.

In many ways, having children means you get to be a kid again yourself!

Because of this, one thing you will almost never hear me say is that my kids are too young to do things.

Unless we’re talking about things like –

Whether your child is the right height to safely board a ride at an amusement park, or engaging in an activity that involves running when my baby is still crawling (in other words, something far too advanced for their current stage of development)….then I believe that as long as my kids are safe and not in harm’s way, they can do anything.

A perfect example of what I’m talking about is this picture of my daughter, Penelope and I doing Mommy and Me Yoga! She was only about a year old when I started taking her and it was so much fun to involve her in something that I love doing so much!

The Yoga class we took was at Red Pearl Yoga in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. I have to say, it was such a lovely experience.

The studio is located in a charming little neighborhood that sits on the intercoastal waterways. The women who teach are so wonderful!

Us Moms were able to exercise with our babies as our “weights” by lifting them up – which was a cool and interactive way to perform strength training techniques with our kids.

But when the children were not in the mood for yoga, they were able to play with one another thanks to the fact that one of the instructors watched them while the other one taught a class for us moms to enjoy – knowing our children were close by and in good hands.

Another perk to this class involved keeping the windows were open (which in the summer in Florida means free hot yoga!) This allowed a cross breeze into the room, and added a more peaceful experience.

This is a memory with my Daughter I will never forget! So get out there with your kids and introduce them to experiences you already enjoy or discover new ones!

Your kids, your mind, and body will thank you.

    Hi Laura,

Getting active with your kids, not only bonds with them, but it sure keeps one in shape! Yoga is a great way to have some fun and also get some exercise.

My kids are grown, but I do have my grand children around and I feel like a kid again when playing with them.
I just finished playing hide and seek, plus teaching my grandson how to swim in the ocean. What fun and the best part is that I lost a pound or two!

      Hi Donna,

I know Laura will be by to reply to your comment personally, but I wanted to thank you for stopping by myself.

I don’t doubt you did lose a pound or two running around and playing with your grandkids. To me, this is health and fitness in its most natural form.

I don’t have kids of my own, but I can only imagine how including them into your own exercise routine can not only help to strengthen the bond, but would act as a means to get them to accept physical activity as a normal part of life.
Thanks so much for your comment Donna. I always appreciate what you add to the conversation 🙂

Thank You so much for your comment! I know how much my Mom and Dad love being Grandparents so that’s so nice for you to have your Grandchildren nearby.

    Great post Laura!

I think this is such an effective way for any parent to get some exercise in while spending quality time with their children. I love the fact that the kids are being looked after in the same vicinity even if they aren’t participating with you.

Mommy & Me Yoga! Excellent idea! We all lift our children constantly, but the idea of incorporating them into a workout is genius! The comfortable setting that was described must have added to the experience of a Mommy & Me Yoga class. Also, very, very cute picture.
